Promenade historique dans les ruelles du Vieux Village - EN
Get the brochure from the tourist information office. The circuit starts at Place de l'Horloge. The visit can begin with the legend plan from 1 to 13:
1- Eastern gate of the Templar Castle
At the corner of Rue des Castellane and Place de l'Horloge was the eastern gate of the Templar castle.
2- Old cemetery
Under the water tower, site of the old cemetery transferred in 1856 to the west of the village.
3- Saint Laurent Church
It was built in three stages. The oldest part is the one on the left. The one on the right is more recent. The first mention of the original church of Régusse dates back to 1170. Dedicated to Saint Laurent, a martyr, it is located near the old castle.
4- Tour of the Castle of the Grimaldi
From this tower would leave an underground tunnel that allowed mercenaries to discreetly exit towards the Font Neuve district, to the west of the village. But this is still one of the mysteries of Régusse.... The Grimaldi castle had four towers. There are only two left. Below the castle, you can see the pigeon loft and the Great Garden of the Lord.
Located to the north of the village, the Ramparts represent the part of Régusse that has best preserved its original character. One part dates from the 12th century, the other, with loopholes and battlements, was built by Charles de Grimaldi in the 16th century. Below it is a beautiful green space known as the "Garden of the Sisters".
5- Gate of the Château Seigneurial
This castle, from the Castellane period, extended westwards by the Grimaldis, was partly razed to the ground during the Revolution.
6- The large arcades
Are remnants of the gates of the Lord's stables that open into the courtyard. This courtyard of the Castle represents the central part. It can be accessed through an imposing portal. It was Charles de Grimaldi who enlarged it to the West in the 17th century.
7- Old door of the Church
Currently it is entered through the South collateral. Through the staircase that frames the door, the Lord reached a room that allowed him to follow the religious service in complete peace.
8- Seigniorial entrance door
This majestic doorway leads to the castle, which was higher up, as evidenced by the exposed foundation stones at its base. The Alexandre Gariel Course, formed by means of embankments, dates back to the 19th century.
9- The Memorial to the Dead
It was built on 27 April 1919 with stones from a quarry in the municipality of Artignosc.
10- The Public Weight
It is located at the end of Cours Gariel next to the medical office (former post office). This elegant little building dates back to 1873 and was decommissioned in 1961. It made an official weighing system available to all.
11- Chapel of Our Lady of Mercy
Better known as the Chapel of the Presbytery, it was first mentioned in 1642. It was used as a place of worship for a brotherhood of White Penitents. It now houses the Museum of Memory and Remembrance of the Regussian Veterans.
12- Place de l'Horloge
The Campanile was built in the 18th century on a 16th century tower. The bell comes from the Chapel of St. John the Baptist.
13- The Windmills
The origin of the Régusse mills is still unclear today. We believe they were built in the 15th and 17th centuries.
